I love this Tom Scheerer image.. the blue on the rug really stood out to me and I am considering adding it to my dining room...
{If you look through my french doors you can see the living room is painted a light blue}
Of course I love the brown and cream with hints of amber and gold {which is what I have} as well..
Should I try a bit of blue?

Absolutely. My favourite combination is Chocolate and Aquamarine. I've even done a post on it with some great images. I like more brown with a blue too so I think it will look stunning in your brown painted room.
I love the idea of bringing the blue into your dining room. However, I don't know if that particular rug will compliment your living room walls -- Make sure they're in the same family. (I can't tell from your pictures.) No reason to take the amber out -- The blue would go great with it. And kudos for the chocolate walls - Beautiful! By the way, I love your draperies, too! (I'm also going to give some unsolicited advice -- Take the photographs of your children out of the dining room -- They will be much more appropriate in a family space or master bedroom.)Great blog!
